Call for submissions

While acknowledging the vast array of feminisms, it seems irrefutable that power is a central concept of feminist theory.  Devoted to the critique of women’s subordination and to the intersections between sexism, racism, heterosexism, cis-sexism, and class oppression, feminist theory is often concerned with domination, redistribution and empowerment; all perspectives of power.

With this in mind HYSTERIA invites submissions for our next issue of the HYSTERIA periodical exploring the concept of ‘power’ in a feminist context. We are looking for radical and boundary-breaking feminist works including poetry, testimonies, essays, comments, photography, performances, paintings, opinions, excerpts objections and all mediums of expression in line with our manifesto we can put in print. All languages welcomed.

About the HYSTERIA periodical

HYSTERIA periodical is a bi-annual feminist publication produced by members of the HYSTERIA collective from around the world. This will be our 8th issue. You can preview digital copies of our former issues and buy your copy on the website.

We believe that creating is a process and not a finished product. If your work is accepted by HYSTERIA you will work closely with one of our editors. Submitted work should be original and not published or under consideration for publication elsewhere.

HYSTERIA currently runs on passion and hard work so we are unable to offer honorarium to contributors at this time.

Terms of submission

In submitting a work to HYSTERIA, the contributor engages in a verbal contract acknowledging the time and thought that editors put into feedback. If a contributor and editor are experiencing communication difficulties either another editor will be brought in or their work will be redirected within HYSTERIA. Only after this process can a submission be withdrawn.

By submitting a piece of work, you grant HYSTERIA first publication rights, i.e. your work cannot be distributed to any other online or print networks before HYSTERIA has published. If you should publish your work elsewhere after publishing with us, the work must provide visible credit to HYSTERIA and we ask that you inform a member of the collective.

Please note that HYSTERIA is run on a voluntary basis so it may take some time for us to respond.

We look forward to reading your hysterical submissions!
